Contact tracing on construction sites could be the new normal
A recent article by Construction Enquirer highlighted how construction could lead the way in adopting the NHS’s Covid-19 contract-tracing app.
Construction is uniquely placed for nationwide adoption as it employs approximately 2.3 million people and has proven the industries’ resilience by operating throughout the pandemic, albeit with strict Site Operating Procedures in-place.
Construction can again lead the way in rolling out the NHS’s Contact tracing App and further safeguard the workforce and public if more outbreaks occur.
What is the NHS Contact tracing App?
Contact tracing apps aim to alert people about their exposure to people infected with Covid-19 faster than human contact tracers, effectively automating manual processes by using your smartphone. If successful, the app could alert people to self-isolate and limit the spread of the virus.
The second edition was launched in England and Wales on September 24 and uses Apple and Google’s contact tracing technology and favours a decentralised approach, where all data about people’s interactions is stored on individual phones instead of a centralised server.
This provides a less intrusive method of contact tracing that puts people’s privacy at the forefront of the system. “The app has been designed to use as little personal data and information as possible,” the NHS says in its privacy documentation. “All the data that could directly identify you are held on your phone and not shared anywhere else.” It also adds that no third-party trackers that can gather people’s personal information have been added to the app.
The new NHS Covid-19 contact tracing app uses both Bluetooth-based contact tracing, aiming to alert people when they have been near someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and the ability for people to ‘check-in’ to places they visit using a QR code system. Other functions include allowing people to check their symptoms, book a free test, and receive test results.
How to set the NHS Contact tracing App up on your project?
The new Contact tracing app can be rolled out on any project with these 3 easy steps.
